forget what others say, just believe…

30 Oct 07 Scripture:  Matthew 5:35

“Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher any more?”  Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

Observation

Look at Jairus…his servant came to him bearing the bad news that his daughter had died while he was seeking help from the ONLY man who could help her.  Take a moment and try to imaging this man…I’m sure he was crying and we know  that “seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet and pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.”  Jairus’ eyes were most likely bloodshot and red from crying the whole way to find Jesus.  Knees in the dirt, he begged the Lord to take the time to listen to him and address his most desperate need.  Then, out of nowhere, here comes Jairus’ servant.  Can you see the look on his face when he hears the bad news?  Dumbfounded and speechless, I am almost sure that his eyes welled up with tears…his little princess…his little girl…his legacy was dead.  But isn’t it just like Jesus to say, “Pay no attention to the words that came from this mans mouth…don’t be afraid…just believe.”  Jesus was about to restore a father to his daughter!

Application

Although not all of us have a dying family member that need to be healed, we do have dying hopes and dreams that we bring before the Lord our God.  I firmly believe that many people never reach their full potential nor achieve their dreams because we are told that they are dead long before the Lord has ever been given a chance to breathe His eternal life back into them.  We are human and many times I, myself, get distracted by the circumstances around me.  I have to believe and have faith that that which I have given birth to, that which came from deep within me (be it my dreams, hopes, desires) will come to pass and come to life.  Even when people around me tell me the contrary, even though tears may profusely run down my face, even though it may seem like all hope is lost and that my dreams are dead, I have to fear not and believe that Jesus can resurrect them and bring them back to life.  Jesus wants to restore us to the faith in our dreams once again.  He wants to bring life!

Prayer

God, thank You for coming through in the clutch…thank You for coming through ALWAYS.  Please help me to continually be like Jairus…a man who ran after You…a man who sought after You (and found You) and brought his needs before You.  Thank You for hearing me cry at night into my pillow.  Thank You for reminding me that You are a life giver and that You will come with me to my home and bring life into my situations.  You are forever faithful to me and for that I cannot thank You enough.  I love You!  Amen.

  2. I appreciate your words! I, too, have been impacted by this passage of scripture. While reflecting upon this passage, the Lord spoke to me about my own daughter, who is “straying” right now. He assured me that he is able to “Reverse the Irreversible.” I’m believing that He can…and will! Have a wonderful day in Christ!
